This post might seem like a humble-brag...and it is.
We have a 7- and 10-year-old, and both are deeply involved in local sports and after-school programs. My wife serves on the PTA. I’m the Vice President of our local youth baseball league and involved in other community programs. We’re social by nature. We love talking to people. We love showing up and helping where we can.
That kind of involvement isn’t for everyone. Even before we had kids, we knew community mattered to us, but we had no idea what that would look like in practice, or how deeply we’d dive in. Somewhere along the way, we jumped in headfirst.
The world feels loud and divided right now. Hatred spreads easily, and the internet has become a petri dish for bad manners, negativity, and spiteful ideas. In the middle of all that, one thing feels grounding and non-negotiable: our kids are watching us. They reflect what they see at home. How we talk about people, how we treat others, how we show up...it all matters.
We’re proud of our kids, but not because of their stats, schedules, or athletic ability. What means the most to us is what we hear from other parents, teachers, and coaches:
“She’s a great friend with a kind heart.”
“He has a lot of empathy.”
“They're always smiling and always in a good mood.”
That’s the stuff that sticks.
I’m new to this brand-building thing, and I live in a small, rural Maine community where people know each other. My vision for Closet Creature isn’t just about apparel...it’s about creating a larger community that amplifies the values we live by. I want kids to care about where they grew up, to feel proud of where they come from, and to understand that community isn’t just a word...it’s something you participate in.
Closet Creature is my way of taking that small-town mindset, showing up, being kind, caring about people and sharing it on a bigger stage. I love your kids. I want them to grow up grounded, confident, and connected. The connection between this brand and community involvement isn’t accidental, it’s the whole point!
Let's be there for each other, we need it now more than ever.
Love ya,
KP
